Welcome to SBGrid

Services Provided by SBGrid:

The SBGrid Consortium specializes in providing a reliable software infrastructure for structural biology computing. Our core offering is a collection of integrated and optimized software applications for use in structural biology, computational chemistry and related disciplines.

The software collection contains more than 190 applications that can be maintained at your site and is available for Linux, OS X and SGI IRIX. The software titles range from data handling and format conversion utilities to complete pipelines for structure determination under X-ray, EM and NMR approaches. The availability of a specific software title is dependent on its license requirements.

Member Benefits include:

  • A uniform computing environment for all users.  The software configuration is designed to be shared to all workstations via NFS from a single server at your site, so a researcher has access to a familiar and comfortable software environment.
  • Automatic regular updates to major packages.  Updates to other software titles and new software titles added on request.
  • High level of scientific software support.  We have been supporting structural biology software for more than 10 years.  Our broad membership means bugs are found and fixed quickly.
  • Recommended hardware and software configurations based on our in-house testing as well as testing among our members.
  • Lower IT support costs for the specialized applications used in structural biology.

Software Developer Benefits include:

  •  Access to a dedicated build and test network for SBGrid supported operating systems.
  • The option to beta-test new software releases among a knowledgeable and interested user base.
  • Zero barriers to software access for interested users.
  • Lowered support costs for mundane issues like operating system compatibility and environment configuration.
  • Letters of support for grant applications.
  • Access to the software collection for their own lab.
